Chester Burger’s Millitary Patches

April 9, 2009

I was so proud of this project, and immensely pleased to meet Mr. Burger.

Mr. Burger’s collection of patches is fascinating and working with them was quite interesting. Also, in the world of Conservation, having the opportunity to meet the person who created an object that you work on is rare – so I felt lucky. And Chester Burger was great to talk to- it was really fun. Really, I think the video kind of says it all.

******ps- if you don’t know me, I’m the one with the green hair!

The Garden of OZ

April 9, 2009

Back on New Year’s Day, I revived my childhood tradition of watching the Rose Parade on TV (and, again,on my birthday). This year I was struck (don’t know why I haven’t been before) by the incredible OVER THE TOP-NESS of it all. And THIS woman was my favorite!

Glinda the Good Witch and the Space Rose

Glinda the Good Witch and the Space Rose

Her name is Jenijoy LaBelle and she’s a professor at Caltech! As Glinda the Good Witch, she’s holding the Space Rose which travelled on the shuttle Atlantis last year.

Space Rose!

Space Rose!

If you click on the picture there’s a really good article about the rose expert for Bayer and his brother the astronaut and the whole story of getting the thing into space and home in one piece.

Me and Alexandra

In honor of the upcoming Fashion Week

That’s Alexandra on the right.  She’s often at the the information desk in front of the Rose Reading Room here at the NYPL and has such utterly fabulous fashion sense that it makes me happy just to see her there. Really, I DEFY you to find someone with better style in this whole Bryant Park area. Thanks for taking this picture with me, Alexandra!

Happy Inauguration Everyone!

Stroop Waffle

Stroop Waffle

I discovered that THIS is their true purpose! I can’t believe what warm gooey goodness i’ve been missing out on all this time!

…I’ve  just learned that according to the Association of Stroopwafel Addicts I’ve been spelling it wrong AND I can only join if I eat a REAL DUTCH stroopwaffel. (I think the ones I’ve been eating come from Canada) …. but I can rise to that challenge!

And then there’s this from Urban Dictionary, tee-hee!

Tommy and I went to see My Bloody Valentine in 3D on Friday night after work – and it was WORTH walking through Time’s Square in sub zero temperatures!

Prune's Monte Cristo

I share a New Year’s Day BIRTHDAY with Betsy Ross, Grand Master Flash and J.D. Salinger. This year I celebrated with the much sought after and rarely replicated DEEP FRIED MONTE CRISTO at Prune! Not only was it the most incredibly delicious monte cristo ever, they brought it with a candle! so sweet!
